Trey Songz just caught a major legal break.
According to HipHopDX, a Clark County District Court judge in Las Vegas threw out a default judgment of over $11 million against the singer after ruling he was never properly served with the lawsuit.
The case stems from a 2023 battery lawsuit filed by Tyrelle Dunn, who claimed Trey and his security team attacked him at The Cosmopolitan in November 2021 after Dunn’s wife was allegedly assaulted in Trey’s hotel room. Dunn said his injuries caused him to miss a month of work.
Despite not responding to the suit, a default judgment was entered against Trey in October 2024.
However, Trey’s legal team argued that he never knew about the case until fans messaged him on Instagram in late November, congratulating him on the judgment.
Trey’s lawyers filed a motion to overturn it, stating he was improperly served and deserved the chance to defend himself in court.
On January 17, Judge Jacob Reynolds agreed and gave Trey 30 days to respond to the original lawsuit. Dunn’s attorney expressed disappointment in the decision but vowed to push the case forward and hold everyone involved accountable.
For now, Trey is off the hook for the $11 million, but the legal battle is far from over.
