Ryan Wesley Routh Formally Charged in Apparent Assassination Attempt on Donald Trump

Martin County Sheriff's Office

A federal judge has delayed the trial of Ryan Wesley Routh, the man accused of a second assassination attempt on President-elect Donald Trump. Originally scheduled for February 10, the trial is now set to begin on September 8, according to court documents.

Routh, who faces five charges including attempting to assassinate a presidential candidate, has pleaded not guilty. The new trial date will mark nearly a year since the alleged assassination attempt.

The reason for the delay was not immediately disclosed. Legal proceedings of this nature often involve extensive preparation, including evidence review, witness testimony, and legal motions, which can contribute to rescheduling.
