Trump Admin to Resettle 60 White South African Refugees Citing Alleged Racial Discrimination

Next week, the U.S. will receive its first group of White South African refugees, Afrikaner families, the Trump administration says have suffered “racial discrimination.”

“The refugee program is not intended as a solution for global poverty. And historically it has been used that way…this is an example of the president returning the refugee program to what it’s intended to be used as,” said Stephen Miller, White House deputy chief of staff and architect of Trump’s immigration agenda.

“What’s happening in South Africa fits the textbook definition of why the refugee program was created…race based persecution,” Miller told reporters, referencing the arrival of at least 50 Afrikaners being flown in from Johannesburg.

According to The Washington Post, around 60 are set to land Monday at Dulles International Airport on a State Department-chartered jet. They will be resettled across 10 states, the report said, citing internal emails and anonymous officials.

Trump signed an executive order in February halting U.S. aid to South Africa, directing his Cabinet to assist in resettling Afrikaners whom he claimed are “victims of unjust racial discrimination.” In March, he promised a “rapid pathway to Citizenship” for South African farmers seeking refuge.

The South African government denies the charges.

“There are sufficient structures available within South Africa to address concerns of discrimination,” it said in a Friday statement.

Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) criticized the plan: “Trump and Musk are about to give refugee status to 60 white South Africans…This is the sick global apartheid policy being adopted by this lawless administration.”
