Donald Trump’s disapproval rates are reportedly tanking, though that comes as no surprise to many.
A new poll shows that most Americans are not satisfied with how Trump is handling the country. According to a Friday survey by The Economist and YouGov, just 40 percent of adults said they “strongly or somewhat” approve of his performance. A majority, 56 percent, reported that they “strongly or somewhat” disapprove, while 4 percent were unsure.
The numbers show deep divisions across party lines. Democrats are overwhelmingly critical of Trump during his seven months in the White House, while Republicans largely stand behind him. Support is strongest among seniors, with 48 percent of Americans 65 and older giving him positive marks. Younger voters remain his weakest group, as only 29 percent of those aged 18 to 29 said they approve of his work in office.
Only 23 percent of Americans said they “strongly approve” of Trump’s presidency, compared with 47 percent who said they “strongly disapprove.” Among those who identify as “very liberal,” 95 percent strongly disapprove, while 72 percent of “very conservative” voters strongly approve.
Other surveys echo these findings. A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll also placed Trump’s approval at 40 percent, down seven points from the start of his second term. Pew Research reported his approval rating at 38 percent in mid-August.
In the average of polls tracked by Decision Desk HQ, Trump currently holds a 45.6 percent approval rating against a 51.1 percent disapproval rating. The latest YouGov survey included 1,568 adults and carried a margin of error of about 3.5 points.
Trump has continuously claimed that he’s doing a great job, yet the data shows otherwise.
