A new report has discovered that the Trump campaign donated $3.5 million to the “Stop the Steal” rally, which led to the deadly Capitol riot.

The report conducted by the Center for Responsive Politics found that the organizers of the January 6th “Stop the Steal” protests received more than $3.5 million from the Trump campaign and its associated fundraising committees.

The new findings stemmed from a review of recent Federal Election Commission filings by OpenSecrets, an arm of the Center for Responsive Politics.

OpenSecrets also discovered that at least three individuals listed on permit records for the “Stop the Steal” rally worked for the Trump campaign through the end of November 2020. It was also unveiled that the Trump campaign made payments to a company named Event Strategies, Inc., which was also named on the permit for the rally. The company was also found to employ two people involved in the January 6th rally.

The “Stop the Steal” rally progressed into the deadly Capitol riot that left five dead, including a Capitol police officer.
