Dr. Deborah Birx is looking for employment. When Trump leaves office in January, the doctor hopes to get a chance at working alongside Dr. Anthony Fauci under President-elect Joe Biden’s administration.
Two unidentified sources close to the situation informed the Associated Press that Dr. Brix recently contacted Biden’s advisers to see about joining his forces as a member of the coronavirus pandemic team, Fox News reported.
Birx is hoping to land a more scaled-back position on Biden’s team. Biden has already tapped Jeffrey Zients to be the White House coronavirus coordinator. Zients spent time as transition co-chair and is a former Obama administration alumnus.
Brix is criticized for being hesitant on speaking out against Trump and his views on COVID-19, specifically after he was briefed on the disease but still told the public it would be no worse than the seasonal flu.
Biden’s team is skeptical of Brix’s credibility when it comes to how the public perceives her, the source told the AP.
“The president’s departure from reality become so extreme that it put her and others on the task force in an untenable position,” Michael Weinstein stated. Weinstein is the head of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation and worked with Brix after becoming the global AIDS coordinator six years ago.
“History will have to judge whether they enabled the president by giving him credibility based on their expertise or whether she and the others did more in helping prevent more people from being hurt by the craziness,” he said.
For now, Fauci will remain as the head of the COVID-19 task force. Brix’s position is still unknown.
