A Long Island man who once got a “second chance” from Donald Trump is back behind bars, this time for crimes far more disturbing than drug trafficking.
Jonathan Braun, a convicted marijuana trafficker whose 10-year sentence was commuted by Trump in 2021, has been convicted again, this time for sexually assaulting his children’s nanny and attacking a toddler, according to reports from The New York Post and AP News.
Braun, once known for running a major smuggling operation, was freed after Trump granted clemency during his final days in office. At the time, the move drew criticism because Braun had also been accused of running an illegal lending scheme that targeted small businesses.
Now, just a few years later, Braun’s name is back in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Prosecutors say he assaulted his family’s nanny, restrained her against her will, and also injured a toddler in a separate incident. He was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for violating the terms of his supervised release.
This marks yet another Trump clemency recipient who has reoffended since being released.
