Trump marked Labor Day by wishing a happy holiday to Radical Left Lunatics, Communists, and Dumocrats who he said would do anything possible to destroy the country. He called them Deranged People, said that after fighting for ten years they should finally acknowledge that their favorite president knows how to win, and predicted a big midterm victory. That was the opening of a posting run that has now stretched across two days and produced dozens of images, several of which are fabricated federal documents.
The bulk of it landed Sunday, more than ten hours of activity on Truth Social. The centerpiece was New Mexico. He posted at least six separate maps relabeling the state New America, and the way they were made is the part that deserves attention.
One is formatted as a United States Geological Survey map, carrying the USGS logo, the Department of the Interior line, a 2024 edition date, and a note about where to buy it from USGS Information Services in Denver. The USGS is the federal agency that produces the country’s official maps. On that map, New Mexico is labeled New America.
Another is built to look like a CIA World Factbook map, complete with a Central Intelligence Agency credit line and a July 2024 date. The Factbook is the reference the government publishes on the countries and territories of the world. On that one, Santa Fe sits inside a state called New America.
A third is dressed as an antique survey, aged paper and a compass rose, credited to a geographer named J.H. Wilton and dated 1883. That would place the renaming decades before New Mexico became a state in 1912. There is no J.H. Wilton survey. The map was made to look old.
The rest of the set covers the range. A Google style road map with New America printed under Albuquerque. A dark map with the state glowing teal. A county map with New Mexico crossed out in red and New America written over it. He also wrote a post calling New Mexico one of the great vote cheating states of all time and describing the new name as more prestigious and beautiful. The official White House account on X reposted the map.
None of it is real. There is no executive order. A president can direct the federal government to change how it refers to geographic features like lakes and gulfs, which is how the Gulf of America order and the August 27 order renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America worked. A state name is different. That is not something a president can change alone. It would take the state and Congress.
The idea did not even originate with him. A satirical account posted on September 1 claiming he had already signed an order renaming New Mexico. It went viral. Snopes traced it and debunked it. Five days later he posted the maps himself.
New Mexico’s leadership answered across party lines. Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham said the name has been theirs since before the United States existed and that while the White House colors on maps, Nuevo México is doing the work. Deb Haaland, the former Interior Secretary now running for governor as a Democrat, said the state is not for renaming and not for sale. Her Republican opponent Gregg Hull rejected it too, saying the name carries the history of Native nations and Spanish explorers who named the land nearly five hundred years ago and that the identity is not up for negotiation.
Another map in the run was not about New Mexico at all. It showed all of North America draped in a single American flag, labeled United States of America, with Canada, Greenland, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean islands inside the same border. The Gulf of America is labeled. Nothing on it is a foreign country.
Then there was Obama, twice within an hour. One image showed Obama from behind facing a mirror, with Trump’s reflection looking back and the caption asking who is the greatest president of them all. The next was a tiered ranking chart of every president. Trump appears alone at the top in a category called The Greatest, above a Great tier holding Lincoln, Washington, and Franklin Roosevelt. At the bottom, in a row labeled Failures, Obama sits second from the left.
Other posts from the run included a Terminator style image of Trump walking a burning Washington street flanked by armed robots under the words they will never sleep again, a throne room image with mechs behind him reading give them nightmares, an arm wrestling photo with Hulk Hogan, an AI image of Robert De Niro holding a shirt endorsing him, the moon captioned as ours, the Strait of Hormuz labeled a new US territory, and a claim that he has made hundreds of billions on stocks for the country. Several posts were later deleted without explanation. The official White House account separately posted an AI video of him as Green Lantern, reciting the comic’s oath.
The reaction turned into a 25th Amendment conversation almost immediately. That is the constitutional provision allowing the vice president and a majority of the Cabinet to declare a president unable to serve. Harry Sisson posted a timestamped rundown of the day and called for it. Aaron Rupar posted a screen recording of the scroll. Governor Gavin Newsom replied to the New Mexico map with two words: shut up.
The amendment is not going anywhere. It requires JD Vance and the Cabinet to move, and neither has shown any sign of it. Marjorie Taylor Greene called for the same thing back in April over an Iran post, and nothing came of that either.
