Trump Admits Iran War Meeting Was So Long He Was "Falling Asleep" Reviewing Operation Names

Donald Trump is pushing for a massive jump in military spending, and he says the country can afford it. In a statement shared from the official White House account, Trump announced that he wants to increase the U.S. military budget for 2027 from $1 trillion to $1.5 trillion. He framed the move as necessary for national safety, calling the current moment “very troubled and dangerous times.”

Trump said the higher budget would help build what he described as a “Dream Military” while keeping the country safe and secure. According to his statement, the funding would come from tariff revenue generated from other countries, which he claimed has brought in what he called tremendous income at levels never seen before. He also took aim at the previous administration, once again attacking Joe Biden while arguing that tariff revenue has put the U.S. in a position to spend more without increasing debt. Trump claimed the added funds would not only support military expansion but also allow the government to pay down debt and provide what he described as a “substantial dividend” to moderate-income Americans.

The proposed $1.5 trillion figure would mark one of the largest military budgets in U.S. history, far surpassing previous defense spending levels. While Trump did not provide detailed breakdowns of how the funds would be allocated, his comments suggest a focus on expansion, modernization, and global military dominance. Online, the announcement immediately sparked debate.

Some people praised the move as prioritizing national security, while others questioned the logic of increased military spending at a time when social programs, infrastructure, and healthcare continue to face funding gaps. For many, the idea of a $1.5 trillion military budget feels like a statement of power more than a policy plan. For others, it raises concerns about priorities and who actually benefits from that kind of spending.

What’s clear is that Trump is once again signaling that defense spending will remain a cornerstone of his second-term agenda, even as the number attached to it keeps climbing. And now the conversation is shifting from whether the number is possible to whether it’s necessary.
