The Trump Organization has filed a lawsuit against the city of New York over its decision to cancel the contract it made with the company to have an 18-hole golf course in the Bronx.

On Monday, Trump filed court documents accusing Mayor Bill de Blasio of breaking off a deal he made with the city regarding Trump’s Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point. Trump claims the arrangement was killed off in the suit because of alleged political gain and an “animosity against President Trump.” He added that he believes his involvement in the January 6 domestic terrorist attack led the city to decide.

“Mayor de Blasio had a preexisting, politically based predisposition to terminate Trump-related contracts, and the City used the events of January 6, 2021, as a pretext to do so,” the lawsuit says, NBC News reports.

The complaint goes on to say that after the riot, de Blasio “denounced President Trump in the most inflammatory terms” and “characterized the Trump Organization as ‘an organization led by a criminal.'” It claims de Blasio also “incited others to terminate business with Trump-related entities.”

After the January 6 attack, de Blasio said the city would be cutting ties with any partnerships and contracts it had with the Trump Organization. The mayor said the city has every right not to work with those who commit criminal activity.

According to NBC News, the license agreement between the city and Trump stated that if the contract was ever terminated, the Parks and Recreation Department would have to pay the Trump Organization “a termination payment equal to the sum of, among other things, capital improvements costs and grow-in costs,” which the Trump’s Organization claims is about $30 million.
