Six months in and I’m tired. Not just a little tired — bone-deep, soul-weary tired. The kind of tired you feel when the air in your country starts to feel heavier, like something has shifted off balance and no one knows how to fix it. That’s the mood right now in America, and Donald Trump’s second go-round in the White House is the reason.

I voted for Kamala. Not just because she was the better candidate, but because I knew her leadership, even with the challenges she’d face as a Black woman, wouldn’t be laced with the chaos, cruelty, and full-blown disrespect we’re now seeing. Sure, there would’ve been obstacles — but not like this. What’s coming out of the Trump White House in 2025 feels less like policy and more like a bad sketch comedy show.

Let’s start with the absurd. A White House–approved “bomb Iran” video? Really? That’s where we’re at? Then came the Usher remix of “Daddy’s Home,” created in response to some MAGA groupie suggesting we call Trump “daddy.” It’s giving middle school, not leader of the free world. This is not satire — this is the official government vibe right now. Are we living in the Twilight Zone?

While some of us are trying to find joy doing line dances at the cookout and holding on to our peace, it’s getting harder to block out what’s actually going on. The social media stunts are one thing — disturbing but ignorable. But the real harm is happening in the streets, in immigration offices, in homes across the country.

Mass deportations are back with a vengeance. People with legal visas are being picked up at scheduled check-ins. Families are being torn apart in real time. And we’re not talking about people who “snuck in.” We’re talking about folks who did everything “right” by the system — still being treated like criminals. That’s not immigration reform. That’s cruelty.

And the scariest part? People are okay with it. Too many are still cheering him on, unfazed by the warning signs flashing in every direction. Elon Musk told us flat-out there would be pain. Trump made it clear who he was. And yet, millions said “yes” to that chaos — again.

It’s hard to wrap your head around. Why would so many people choose pain over progress? Control over compassion? Noise over nuance?

We’ve been here before. But this time feels worse — because now, there’s no excuse. We know what this administration is capable of. We’ve seen it before, and somehow, it came back stronger and more unhinged.

So here we are. Six months in. Exhausted, frustrated, and deeply concerned. And unless something changes fast, the next three and a half years are going to test every fiber of what’s left of this so-called democracy.
