In a recent post, Donald Trump suggested that tech mogul Elon Musk, a key ally, needs to be “more aggressive” in his efforts to reduce government spending and overhaul the federal workforce through the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Trump shared on Truth Social, “ELON IS DOING A GREAT JOB, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE HIM GET MORE AGGRESSIVE. REMEMBER, WE HAVE A COUNTRY TO SAVE, BUT ULTIMATELY, TO MAKE GREATER THAN EVER BEFORE. MAGA!”
Musk responded and assured Trump, “Will do, Mr. President.”
Musk and DOGE have targeted federal agencies, aiming to restructure, including major cuts to USAID and the Education Department. According to DOGE, the reforms have saved $55 billion by canceling grants, selling assets, and reducing contracts and leases.
The Trump administration has offered buyouts to civil servants, with over 75,000 government employees accepting. However, DOGE has faced backlash from Democrats and advocacy groups, questioning its transparency. The board’s cuts have been challenged in court, with 14 states claiming they’re unconstitutional.
Musk’s influence over the administration has raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest. Trump defended him, calling Musk a “patriot,” and assured, “I told Elon, any conflicts you can’t have anything to do with that.”
White House filings clarify Musk’s role, stating he has no formal government decision-making power.
Musk continues to back DOGE’s mission, insisting it delivers the government reforms voters demanded, while Trump praised Musk for his leadership, expecting even greater efficiency ahead.
Additionally, Musk shared a post stating, “All federal employees will shortly receive an email requesting to understand what they got done last week. Failure to respond will be taken as a resignation.”
