(Sighs) #DonaldTrump is planning to take away educational affirmative action.
According to the New York Times, the Trump administration is trying to push institutions away from using President #BarackObama’s 2011/2016 regulations and no longer use race to determine acceptance regardless of the evident disparities in college acceptance amongst non-whites vs people of color.
The works of Obama were set on making sure colleges and universities “avoid racial isolation” and “voluntarily consider race to further the compelling interest of achieving diversity,” CNBC reports. Trump has been insidiously working to dismiss the guidelines since 2017. Trump’s administration began looking for lawyers who wanted to investigate “intentional race-based discrimination” on college campuses. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Trump and potential lawyers are currently investigating a lawsuit against Harvard University alleging a discrimination against Asian Americans during its admissions process. According to court documents, Harvard required candidates to endure a personality rating system which included likeability and kindness, which Asian Americans would rank low on.

“It turns out that the suspicions of Asian-American alumni, students, and applicants were right all along,” the Students for Fair Admissions collective said. “Harvard today engages in the same kind of discrimination and stereotyping that it used to justify quotas on Jewish applicants in the 1920s and 1930s.”

Trump’s proposed plan will be similar to George W. Bush’s guidelines during his presidency, which “strongly encourages the use of race-neutral methods.”

Without educational affirmative action, many members of non-white groups wouldn’t be able to receive the opportunities they have the right to as citizens. Our country has a history of excluding “minority” groups from the resources, institutions and funding they deserve. Those “minorities” include women, Blacks, Latinos, Asians, and more.
