Two men, reported to be brothers, were arrested after a fight at a Van Nuys, California Target left a security guard with a broken arm. Police say it started when the store enforced its mask rule.
The incident happened around 10:20 a.m. on May 1. Phillip, 31, and Paul, 29, were reportedly escorted toward the exit after they refused to wear masks, which the store has required since April 10 during the coronavirus outbreak. LAPD Officer Drake Madison told the Los Angeles Times that one of the men “suddenly and without provocation” punched a store employee as they approached the exit. Surveillance video reportedly shows a brawl breaking out afterward. KCBS reports the guard was taken to the hospital with a broken arm.
Bossip and the New York Post report both men were arrested and charged with felony battery. Bail was set at $50,000 and they were released on May 5. These are allegations, and a response from either man was not included in the reports we reviewed.
Target called it an “unfortunate altercation” and said it is grateful for the support of local police.
