Two Dead After Plane Collision at Arizona’s Marana Regional Airport

Arizona’s Marana Regional Airport

Two people were killed Wednesday morning when two planes collided mid-air at Marana Regional Airport, just outside Tucson, Arizona, according to officials.

The Marana Police Department confirmed that both planes were occupied at the time of the crash. The victims have not yet been identified.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the collision occurred around 8:30 a.m. and involved a Lancair, carrying two people, and a Cessna 172, also carrying two people.

Marana Regional Airport is an uncontrolled field, meaning it does not have an active air traffic control tower. Pilots in these types of airspaces rely on a common traffic advisory frequency (CTAF) to communicate their positions and ensure safe operations.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the cause of the crash.

This incident comes just weeks after a fatal aircraft crash at Scottsdale Airport, which left one pilot dead and four others injured.

This is a developing story.
