The football world is mourning Edwin Jackson, the Indianapolis Colts linebacker who died in a crash early Sunday morning. His Uber driver also died.
According to USA Today, the other driver, Manuel, was arrested after the crash. The outlet reports his blood alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit. USA Today also reports that Manuel is in the country illegally and had been deported twice before.
The news quickly reached the White House. President Donald Trump tweeted that it was “so disgraceful that a person illegally in our country killed @Colts linebacker, Edwin Jackson,” and used the moment to push Democrats to act on border security. Trump and Congress were set to meet that week to talk immigration policy ahead of a February 8th deadline, USA Today reports.
Trump later sent a second tweet offering prayers and best wishes to Jackson’s family.
