An employee of the New Orleans Police Department earning extra income as an Uber driver was fatally stabbed by a passenger on Thursday.
Bradon Jacobs, 29, ordered an Uber for the sole purpose of killing someone. Yolanda Dillion, 54, responded to the ride request and dropped him off at a hotel.
Dillon was stabbed multiple times in the parking lot of the Travelodge in Jefferson Parish. Jacobs exited the vehicle after attacking Dillon and recorded her before uploading the video to his Facebook. Authorities worked with the social media platform to have the video removed.
Police were able to locate Jacobs after finding his cell phone had been left in the car. He was taken into custody Thursday night at the hotel while leaving his room to smoke a cigarette.
Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto said Jacobs admitted to stabbing Dillon and that there was no motive. The attack is considered a random act of violence.
“He stated that he woke up yesterday morning and decided he was going to kill someone,” Lopinto said during a news conference.
Jacobs has been charged with second-degree murder and is being held on without bond.
Dillon was a fiscal analyst with the police department for a decade. She was described as a nice person taking care of her sick, 83-year-old mother.
“Our team is taking it pretty hard. She was an extremely lovely person,” Police Chief Shaun Ferguson said of Dillon.
