UFC’s Jon Jones: Tests Positive for Cocaine, to Enter Rehab – blogged by @coolwitha_k

Just before his eighth title defense last weekend, UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, tested positive for “traces of cocaine.” (And we’re just hearing about this?!)

ESPN.com received confirmation of the positive drug test via Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) executive director, Bob Bennett, earlier today. The test sample was collected December 4th and examined, issuing results on December 23rd. However, the results were considered “out-of-competition” tests even with benzoylecgonine (a metabolite of cocaine) appearing in the report. This means the outcome and stats of Jones’ fight earlier this month (against Daniel Cormier) will stand as credible.

Jones recently informed NSAC about his drug use and that “he had admitted himself into a drug treatment center,” reports ESPN. Bennett released a statement telling reporters to direct questions to Jones and/or the UFC. UFC president and staff “commended Jones on his decision.”

But this isn’t Jones first run in with substance absuse, either. Back in 2012, he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after driving his car into a pole. He pleaded guilty to the counts, had his driver’s license suspended for six months and was fined $1,000.

Jones is the youngest champion in UFC history after winning his first title in 2011 at 23. He’s won eight consecutive title defenses ranking him third in UFC history. His record 20-1, has made him one of the top fighters in the world.
