Miami Jackson High School has added a little celebrity status to their coaching staff. Lakatriona Brunson, also known as Bernice on truTV’s “South Beach Tow,” already serves as a physical education teacher at Jackson High. Brunson, who holds a Physical Education/Fitness degree at Tennessee State, played football in the Independent Women’s Football League. She has been named the school’s new football coach, the first female head coach in Florida.
“Today is historic for not only Florida, but Miami Jackson,” Brunson said. “When [former coach Earl Little] stepped down, I took a look at [the job] like, ‘Why can’t I do it?’ ”
Brunson hired on Luther Campbell, known to many of us as Uncle Luke, to be the team’s new defensive coordinator. Prior to Monday’s hire, Campbell was the defensive coordinator at Norland High School.
“We’re just here to change the atmosphere at Miami Jackson and get some W’s on the board,” said Brunson. “I know I can do it. … Watch what we’re going to do. It’s some big things coming up.”
Made to order and shipped to your door.
Jackson has not won a state football championship since 1952. Hopefully the addition of some new coaching staff can turn things around.
