Stefon Diggs Says He Can’t Be Sued for Calling His Male Sexual Assault Accuser a Liar Because His Posts Were True

Stefon Diggs responds to male accuser's defamation claim in new court filing

Stefon Diggs and Christopher Griffith

Stefon Diggs is fighting back against the man accusing him of sexual assault, arguing in new court documents that he cannot be held liable for defamation over social media posts he says are true.

The filing is Diggs’s response to counterclaims from Christopher Griffith, a stylist and social media influencer who says the NFL star drugged and sexually assaulted him in 2023. In the documents, the Washington Commanders wide receiver denies every allegation of wrongdoing.

Griffith has accused Diggs of defamation, which means making false statements that damage someone’s reputation, over a post Diggs made after the legal fight went public. In that post, Diggs wrote that Griffith was “lying on my name because he got caught stealing.” Diggs now says that statement is true, and under the law, the truth is a complete defense to a defamation claim.

The legal battle started with Stefon Diggs. On Oct. 1, 2025, he sued Griffith for defamation, accusing him of making up the assault story to build his following online. According to that lawsuit, Griffith shared the allegations with nearly 100,000 Instagram followers and tagged the NFL, the New England Patriots, and UGG, a brand Diggs had partnered with at the time.

Griffith answered with counterclaims of his own. He says he was friends with Diggs and was flown to the player’s home in Rockville, Maryland, in May 2023 for a celebrity basketball game. He claims Diggs gave him laced candy and made sexual advances he refused. Griffith also says that about a week later, a group of men including Diggs’s brother, Darez Diggs, attacked him, and that more than $100,000 worth of his property was stolen from his Los Angeles apartment building. Griffith says the attack was meant to keep him from going public.

Stefon Diggs tells a different story. He denies making any advances and denies having anything to do with an attack. He says he cut off contact with Griffith because Griffith tried to steal clothing from him.

Both sides have been fighting over evidence for months. Griffith says he has turned over more than 100 pages of text messages and social media conversations, and he claims texts and phone records connect Diggs to the alleged attack. Diggs’s attorney, Mitch Schuster, has called those claims “misrepresentations and outright fabrications.”

A federal judge has also pushed Diggs to be more specific about the relationship. The judge rejected Diggs describing Griffith as an “acquaintance” and ordered him to give a full, direct account of their history and what happened that weekend.

Griffith has already settled a separate lawsuit against Darez Diggs over the alleged attack. The terms of that settlement are confidential. His claims against Stefon Diggs are still moving forward, and none of the allegations on either side have been proven in court.
