A video from a Brooklyn bodega has gone viral, and many viewers say it does not back up what the woman in it claimed.
The clip was recorded Wednesday, Oct. 10, in Flatbush. In it, a woman who identifies herself as Teresa says a young boy touched her inappropriately, and she can be heard on the phone saying she wants police to come right away. In the footage, a family walks past her, and as the boy follows his mother it appears his backpack brushes against her from behind.
A crowd gathers outside the deli as the confrontation continues. The boy, who has not been named, begins to cry and people try to comfort him. His mother can be heard disputing the accusation. At one point the woman says, “White lady calls the cops on black lady, I get it.”
Online, the woman has been nicknamed “Cornerstore Caroline,” a reference to other recent viral incidents in which police were called on Black people doing ordinary things. Teresa’s side of the story was not part of the video, and a fuller response from her was not available when this was written.
