Virginia Dad Gifts Son Living in His Basement a $1 Million Lottery Ticket as a Wedding Present

Aaron Andrews

A Virginia father found an incredibly generous way to help his son and new daughter-in-law move out of his basement: by gifting them a $1 million winning lottery ticket.

Aaron Andrews, a newlywed, had been living in his dad’s basement since getting married in April while saving up for a new home. Little did he know, his father had a plan to speed things up.

Andrews’ father purchased a Cash4Life lottery ticket from PJ’s Neighborhood Variety Store in Triangle, Virginia, and ended up matching the first five numbers. The prize offered the choice of $1,000 every week for life or a one-time payout of $1 million. Instead of keeping it, he decided to give the ticket to his son as a memorable wedding gift.

“I have a great father who has done nothing but look out for me!” Andrews said.

The proud dad joked with lottery officials about the practical side of his generosity, saying, “This was the best way to get him out of my basement.”

For Andrews, the decision on how to use the money was clear. He opted for the lump sum and is now looking forward to buying a home for himself and his wife, making his father’s thoughtful gift even more meaningful for their future.
