A sentencing in Virginia is drawing criticism from prosecutors and the victim’s family after a judge ruled that a man convicted in a case involving a 14 year old girl will serve no active jail time.
According to Pix11, Logan, now 19, pleaded guilty in September to having carnal knowledge of the girl. At that time, the sentence was reported as 10 years in prison with eight years suspended.
Four months later, Chesterfield Circuit Court Judge T.J. Hauler set aside the two year term, saying he needed more time to review the case. After seven months, the judge declined to reinstate the original sentence, and Logan will not serve active incarceration.
Reports say Logan was a high school student when the incident happened, following a school event. He will have to register as a sex offender and will lose an academic scholarship to the University of Mary Washington.
Prosecutors said the family is disappointed. “The family is disappointed that the defendant will not serve any active incarceration for the brutal attack on the victim,” prosecutors said after the ruling. “They do not believe justice has been served and shared concern for community safety and future potential victims.”
