On Wednesday, a Virginia judge who let a rapist walk free in 2016, after the state of Virginia demanded the request for release be denied, has sentenced a man accused of violent sexual assault against a 14-year-old girl to no jail time.
According to Pix11, 19-year-old Logan Michael Osborn pleaded guilty in September to having carnal knowledge of the girl, which, at the time, resulted in a 10-year prison sentence, with eight years suspended.
However, just four months later, Chesterfield Circuit Court Judge T.J. Hauler decided to do away with the two-year stint, arguing that he needed more time to review the case. But, after seven months, Hauler declined to reinstate the original sentence, letting the Osborn walk free.
In the incident, Osborn, who was a high school student at the time, reportedly sexually assaulted the 14-year-old victim after a school play. According to reports, officials say Osborn took the young girl on a walk, taking advantage of her lack of knowledge of the school grounds.
When the two reached a dead-end, Osborn forced himself on the girl, after tying a belt around her neck and hands. Osborn then released her, just in time for her mother to pick her up.
Upon arrival, the girl’s mother felt something was off, and that’s when the girl explained what happened.
Though Osborn will have to register as a sex offender and forgo his academic scholarship to the University of Mary Washington, the family is disappointed that he will not serve any jail time.
“The family is disappointed that the defendant will not serve any active incarceration for the brutal attack on the victim,” prosecutors said after the ruling. “They do not believe justice has been served and shared concern for community safety and future potential victims.”
