Vivica A. Fox is 61, booked solid and done apologizing for how she looks.
The actress sat down with Yahoo Entertainment and went straight into what it feels like to be a woman in an industry that has never been kind about aging. Hollywood has a habit of holding women to impossible standards and Fox is one of the few who will say it out loud. People have had things to say about her body and her appearance over the years and she acknowledged it without flinching.
“The body changes. You’re not going to be the same size that you were when you were 19, 20 years old. But people forget that sometimes and they can say very mean things to you.”
What she wants people to understand is that aging is not something to fight. It is something to embrace. “I’m in a business that you get judged by your looks constantly. Sometimes people don’t allow you the grace to age, to be normal, to live a little bit. To age is a blessing and a beautiful thing.” She also made it clear she is not sitting around feeling sorry about any of it. “I’m comfortable in the skin I’m in, flaws and all.”
The bigger story here is what her career looks like right now. Fox said she never expected this chapter of her life to be this full. Acting, directing, producing, a hairline and a clothing line all in motion at the same time. “I had no idea that this chapter of my life that I would be this booked, busy and blessed. And I’m grateful.” She pointed to women like Tina Turner and Sophia Loren as the blueprint for what getting older with your head up actually looks like.
Hollywood can keep its beauty standards. Vivica is on her own timeline and clearly thriving on it.
