Amid backlash over Wade Robson’s controversial appearance on HBO’s “Leaving Neverland,” in which he recounts an alleged history of sexual abuse at the hands of the Michael Jackson, the struggling dancer is altering the name of his online family fund.
Upon the initial release of the controversial documentary, Robson set up a charity through Hawaii Community Foundation named, “Robson Family Fund,” which, according to The Blast, has “created a powerful way to contribute towards the healing from and prevention of child abuse.” However, as the documentary continued to garner both negative and positive reviews, many grew skeptical of Robson’s intentions.
In fact, most accused Robson of lying for financial gain, using his past financial struggles, his attempts to publish a book and work on Michael Jackson’s tribute shows as evidence against the accuser. In addition to that, fans highlighted the fact that donations for Robson’s charity started at a whopping $250, and failed to provide specific details on where the money would go.
Following the premiere of part two of the controversial documentary, Robson and his wife, Amanda, responded to the backlash over the fund with an alteration. According to The Blast, the couple reportedly removed the “Robson Family Fund” page and replaced it with the “Robson Child Abuse Healing and Prevention Fund,” which included a personal $10,000 donation from Robson, himself.
However, the page still links to Robson’s website, which now consists of a host of resources for sexual abuse survivors. In the meantime, sources close to Jackson’s estate maintain Robson only participated in the documentary to boost his own fame, as they highlighted major inconsistencies in the accuser’s allegations.
