Walmart has decided to pull its Juneteenth ice cream flavor after receiving widespread backlash.

Walmart’s in-house Great Value brand stocked shelves with the ice cream, which was swirled red velvet and cheesecake flavored but what the giant retailer thought was a good idea, was actually an epic fail.

Social media went wild about it and not in a good way.

“Share and celebrate African-American culture, emancipation, and enduring hope,” a message on the side of the ice cream pint read.

A Walmart spokesperson addressed the issue, saying, “Juneteenth holiday marks a celebration of freedom and independence. However, we received feedback that a few items caused concern for some of our customers and we sincerely apologize. We are reviewing our assortment and will remove items as appropriate.”

Last summer, President Biden made Juneteenth a federal holiday. At that time, Biden said the day marks “not only the commemoration of the end of slavery in America more than 150 years ago,” but also a reminder of the “ongoing work” that’s ahead.
