Why did the Seattle Seahawks trade Percy Harvin to the New York Jets? The team has not given a detailed public explanation, but reports in October 2014 pointed to friction between Harvin and his teammates.
According to NFL Media, former Seahawks fullback Michael Robinson said he physically broke up a locker room fight between Harvin and receiver Golden Tate the day before Super Bowl XLIX. Robinson said the two talked it out afterward and seemed to move on. He declined to say what the argument was about.
NFL Media’s Steve Wyche also reported that receiver Doug Baldwin acknowledged a separate altercation with Harvin. Baldwin said the decision to trade Harvin belonged to head coach Pete Carroll and team management.
Seattle gave up multiple draft picks and a big contract to land Harvin and received only a conditional sixth round pick from the Jets in return, which fueled questions about the move.
Harvin and Tate have not publicly explained what the fight was about, and the Seahawks have not said these incidents were the reason for the trade. Any other talk about the cause is speculation.
