Washington Mayor Made Comments In Support Of The QAnon Conspiracy; Critics Call For Him To Resign

A mayor in Washington seemingly supports the #QAnon conspiracy theory that claims #Donald was placed in office to bring to light an alleged elite, nationwide child-sex trafficking ring.

Sequim Mayor #WilliamArmacost in Washington state calls the #QAnon a “truth movement that encourages you to think for yourself.” The QAnon conspiracy theory claims that #Trump is behind a secret war to bring to light and take down a Satan-worshipping pedophile ring that has infiltrated areas of the government, media, and other business that make up this country. This theory comes from a post that was made on the message board 4chan back in October 2017 from a user who signed off as “Q.”

During a chat on local radio show KSQM’s Coffee With a Mayor,” Armacost shared his thoughts on the idea. “If you remove Q from that equation, it’s patriots from all over the world fighting for humanity, truth, freedom and saving children and others from human traffic—exposing the evil and corruption of the last century in hopes of leaving a better future for our children and grandchildren,” he said. “Those who are corrupt will do everything they can to suppress the truth. Ask yourself a question: Why haven’t Antifa and Black Lives Matter been called the same?”

Afterward, he ended up issuing a statement after receiving backlash, saying: “While I believe that people should fight for truth and freedom, it was inappropriate to respond to this question as mayor during a program designed to talk about City of Sequim issues.” Now, people are calling for Armacost to resign. “We want to stand up and say this is not who we are,” she said. “This is not our mayor, and he should step down.” Despite the critics, councilors on the city’s board said Armacosts’s words were a form of free speech and said they will not take any disciplinary action towards him.

Sequim City Manager Charlie Bush said: “The intent of the Coffee with the Mayor meeting program is to discuss issues specific to the City of Sequim. He continued, saying, “Any responses to questions reflecting the personal opinion of the Mayor do not reflect policy positions of the Sequim City Council or the organization.”
