Washington Redskins linebacker Reuben Foster will not face trial on a domestic violence charge in Florida. Prosecutors dismissed the case, according to multiple reports.
Foster was arrested in Tampa on Saturday, November 24, after police were called to the team hotel. Police said his ex girlfriend, Elissa, told them Foster hit her in the face while trying to take her phone. Foster has denied wrongdoing.
Reports say the case was dropped because of issues with the witness’s credibility. Elissa had previously accused Foster of abuse in an earlier case that was also dismissed, and reports said she told prosecutors in that case she had made the claim out of anger after a breakup. Foster’s attorneys have maintained his innocence throughout.
Foster had an arraignment set for Thursday morning in a Tampa courtroom, but it was canceled after the charge was dismissed on January 2.
The Redskins claimed Foster after the San Francisco 49ers released him following his November arrest. Any decision on his playing status would be up to the team and the league.
