Wendy Williams slammed Nicki Minaj over her decision to be with and marry Kenneth Petty.
Petty and Nicki secretly got married last year. Since then, the internet has not let her husband’s crime-ridden history go. Back in 1995, Petty was convicted for attempted rape involving a victim who was 16. Prosecutors said he allegedly used a sharp object during the incident. Petty ended up serving about four years in prison before being released in the ’90s, according to TMZ.
On the latest episode of The Wendy Williams Show, Williams addressed Petty’s recent arrest. In November, an officer pulled him over and realized he hadn’t registered as a sex offender in the state of California. Petty was arrested and eventually released on a $20,000 bond under the condition that he completes the registration. TMZ reports Petty never registered, which resulted in him being taken into custody on March 4. Petty pleaded not guilty before a judge and was ordered to post a $100,000 bond at some point during the day. Now Petty will have to wear an ankle monitor, abide by a strict curfew, and relinquish his passport. He also can’t leave California or use marijuana despite it being legal in the state.
Well, of course, Williams took it upon herself to make Minaj’s troubles the ammo for her gun, as she took several shots at the rapper’s decision to marry Petty. “The way this show is going today, we did not have enough time to get to Nicki Minaj’s [husband]… But let me tell you something, Nicki, that’s going to be my first story tomorrow,” Williams said, foreshadowing the next day’s episode. “I’m going to lead with this: You should’ve never married him because now you’ve ruined everything about what your brand could be.”
She continued, “You are never going to stand a chance when you are with a man who pulls a knife at rape point. A registered sex offender, you are never going to stand a chance with [the public].” She then instructed her production team to start researching more of Petty’s background.
In addition to the rape conviction, Petty was also later convicted of 1st-degree manslaughter for his involvement in a fatal shooting in New York in 2002, Entertainment Tonight reports. He went behind bars for seven years before being released in 2013.
