A Wisconsin woman is accused of failing to get help for her disabled adult son after he fell, according to a criminal complaint reported by the Journal Times and Racine County Eye.
The complaint names Cheryl, 60, as the mother of a 46 year old man. The charges are allegations only. Baller Alert did not find a public response from Cheryl at the time of this report.
According to the complaint, relatives became worried about the man’s well being and asked authorities to do a welfare check. On October 28, authorities arrived at his home and found a note on the door that began with the words “On vacation, please respect that.” The note also complained about a lack of supplies from Human Services.
Authorities returned about two hours later with the man’s sister and aunt. The complaint says Cheryl screamed and tried to block the doorway when police attempted to go inside. Police then found the man on the bathroom floor under a blanket.
The complaint says Cheryl told investigators that she did not call 911 after her son fell from his bed days earlier. She reportedly said she could not lift him because of his size, so she dragged him to the bathroom and gave him pain medication. The complaint alleges she left him there to die.
According to the complaint, Cheryl also told investigators that her son deserved to pass away peacefully and that she did not want him to die in a hospital. Family members reportedly told authorities that he had been given a good bill of health at a recent doctor’s visit. The complaint says he was last seen alive on October 19.
Cheryl is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. We will keep you posted as the case moves forward.
