US Capitol Police say a woman was arrested in Washington, DC on Sunday after she tried to get past a police barricade while flashing a military challenge coin and claiming to be part of President Donald Trump’s cabinet and a member of law enforcement.
The Hill obtained an arrest report that identifies the woman as Linda, 63, of Stratford, Connecticut. According to the report, Linda told officers at the Columbus Circle checkpoint that she was “a part of the presidential cabinet” and showed a military police challenge coin.
The checkpoint was one of many set up around the city to limit access to areas near this week’s presidential inauguration. The report says Linda then drove around Columbus Circle and was stopped again near Union Station. She was arrested on suspicion of falsely imitating a police officer, failing to follow police instructions and fleeing from police. An arrest is not a conviction, and a response from Linda was not included in the reports we reviewed.
Downtown Washington has been heavily locked down for days over security fears tied to President elect Joe Biden’s inauguration, after the violent riot at the U.S. Capitol earlier this month. Five people died in connection with that day, including a Capitol Police officer, and another officer who responded died several days later.
The arrest also comes a few days after a man from Virginia was found with an unregistered firearm and hundreds of rounds of ammunition near an inauguration security checkpoint on Friday.
