A Pennsylvania woman named Margaret has been arrested after police say she coughed and spit on about $35,000 worth of food at Gerrity’s Supermarket in Hanover Township. Authorities say the incident happened during the coronavirus outbreak, which raised health concerns for the store.
According to TMZ, authorities reported that Margaret, 35, made threats when she entered the store, claimed to be sick and coughed on produce, bakery items and meat. Police say she also tried to take a 12 pack of beer before she was arrested.
Joe Fasula, co owner of Gerrity’s Supermarkets, described her as a chronic problem in the community and called the act a very twisted prank. He said the store had to throw away the affected food as a safety precaution, and employees had to clean and disinfect the store.
She was reportedly charged with felony counts of terroristic threats and threatening to use a biological agent, along with criminal mischief, attempted retail theft and disorderly conduct. Her bail was reportedly set at $50,000, and a court date was scheduled for April 8. At the time of the report, it was unclear whether she actually had the coronavirus. These are charges only, and she had not been convicted.
