Police in Las Vegas have arrested a 22 year old woman, Angela, accused of stabbing Michael Jackson’s niece Yasmine Jackson in what authorities are treating as a possible hate crime.
According to Page Six, the attack happened May 30 near Yasmine’s home. Yasmine, the daughter of Joh’Vonie Jackson, who is Michael Jackson’s half sister, says she was chased and stabbed multiple times and that the attacker shouted racial slurs at her. Reports say she was stabbed seven times, and she has described being left with serious injuries to her neck.
Video of the aftermath shows a police officer taking the suspect into custody. A bystander can be heard in the recording saying the woman told people she attacked Yasmine because of her race.
Yasmine shared her account on Instagram. “I pray to God that if you have any kind of hatred in your heart towards black people that you heal it. I didn’t deserve this, nobody does,” she wrote.
According to KSNV, Angela was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder with a deadly weapon with a hate crime enhancement and is being held on $100,000 bail. She was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday. Page Six did not report a response from her, and the allegations have not been proven in court.
The Daily Mail, citing Yasmine’s account and witnesses, reported that the two women live in the same building and that the suspect had complained about noise from Yasmine’s apartment. Police have not said that dispute was a motive.
