A San Francisco woman who goes by Gizzy says she contracted HIV from a former partner, and she has started a petition on Change.org asking California lawmakers to create a law that holds people accountable for knowingly exposing others to the virus.
According to Gizzy, California does not currently have a law that prosecutes someone who does not disclose their HIV status to a sexual partner. She says that is why she turned to social media and the petition, to raise awareness and push for change. Some states treat knowing exposure as a crime, while others do not, and the topic remains a debated one among health experts and advocates.
The claims in this story come from Gizzy and her petition. Baller Alert has not independently verified them, and no one else involved has publicly responded. For that reason we are not naming anyone else in this post.
Whatever your view on the law, the story is a reminder that open honest talk with partners and regular testing matter for everyone. You can read the petition on Change.org.
