A woman named Sonya, who works as a property lawyer, is telling Daily Mail that she was briefly married to actor Idris Elba before he became a household name.
According to Sonya, the two were introduced by mutual friends in 2006, when Elba was already known in America for his role on The Wire. She says they dated for several months, with quiet nights at home, brunch and dinner and a movie, before a trip to Las Vegas for a boxing match, where she says they decided on the spur of the moment to marry in a simple ceremony.
Sonya claims the marriage lasted only about six weeks. She told the paper that Elba wanted to end it because he and those around him worried it would hurt his career, a claim that is her account alone. She also said they remain on friendly terms and talk by phone from time to time.
The claims have not been confirmed, and at the time of this post we had not seen a response from Elba or his representatives.
