Woman Was Charged With Reckless Endangerment After Driving Into A Crowd Of Protesters In NYC

A 52 year old Queens woman has been charged with reckless endangerment after her car drove into a crowd of protesters in Manhattan on Friday, injuring several people, according to police and news reports.

According to BuzzFeed News, Kathleen drove her 2019 BMW through a crowd at East 39th Street and Third Avenue just after 4 p.m. ABC7 reported that seven people were hurt, that injuries were not considered serious, and that she was given a desk appearance ticket with a court date set for February 22.

Kathleen was in the car with another woman. Reports say she claimed she panicked and drove forward to get away from demonstrators who had surrounded her car. Her motive was not fully clear at the time of this report.

Early reports described the gathering as a Black Lives Matter march, but local New York outlets reported that protesters were rallying in support of immigrant detainees on a hunger strike at the Bergen County Jail in New Jersey.

The charge is an allegation, and the case had not been decided in court at the time of this report.
