Charges have been filed against a woman who intentionally abandoned her dog at a Pennsylvania airport after being told she could not bring the dog on her flight.
Allison Gaiser, 44, was told that she could not bring the dog on the plane without the proper carrier on Aug. 4. So she left her French bulldog in a stroller near the short-term parking lot of the Pittsburgh International Airport.
Gaiser boarded her flight to a resort in Mexico as planned. Officers located the dog, which was turned over to an animal care facility. It is now in a foster home, and Boston.com reports the pup is doing well.
The canine was licensed and microchipped, which helped police identify Gaiser. A county police sergeant was waiting for Gaiser when she returned from her vacation on Aug. 10. She told officers that her mother was supposed to pick the dog up from the airport. However, after reviewing text messages between the two, there appeared to be no plan in place to retrieve the dog.
According to the Alleghany County Police Department, Gaiser was charged with animal cruelty, along with summary violations of animal cruelty, animal neglect, and abandonment of animals by an owner. She was issued a summons.
