Wu-Tang Clan has definitely made their mark as one of the most respected groups in rap history, and in honor of their 25 years of accomplishments and accolades, their hometown of Staten Island, NY not only named an intersection after them but also declared Wu-Tang Clan Day.
In a ceremony over the weekend, the intersection of Targee Street and Vanderbilt Avenue was officially renamed Wu-Tang Clan District. Community leaders along with Councilwoman Debi Rose also proclaimed November 9th Wu-Tang Clan Day.
Ghostface Killah spoke during the special ceremony, stating, “It’s like a dream right now. It’s like, 25 years later to come back and to have district, a block named after your crew. It’s like, it’s unbelievable. First of all, people don’t get to make it 25 years later. To come from Staten Island, I wanna tell y’all anything is possible. I never saw this day coming. I knew that we were some ill MCs, but I didn’t know it would take it this far.”
The ceremony comes less than a week before the release of their Showtime documentary series ‘Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men,’ which chronicles the group’s rise to hip hop stardom in the ’90s.
