Yella Beezy is asking the court to delay his upcoming capital murder trial following the death of his mother, just weeks before jury selection was set to begin.
The Dallas rapper was scheduled to move forward with his case on February 2, but his legal team is now seeking more time as the family grieves. A court hearing took place on Friday, January 16, though Beezy did not attend due to the recent loss.
His attorneys confirmed the situation in a statement provided to WFAA and said another hearing is already on the calendar to address outstanding legal matters and the trial timeline.
“We can confirm his mother’s passing,” his legal team said. “We are having another hearing next week to go over some of the pre-trial motions. We will also be discussing a new trial date.”

Yella Beezy will face trial for a charge of capital murder related to his alleged role in the killing of Mo3 in 2020. Prosecutors accuse the rapper of allegedly hiring a hitman in connection with the fatal shooting of the Dallas artist. He has been on house arrest with electronic monitoring since posting a $750,000 bond in March 2025.
The case also includes two other defendants. Kewon White and Devin Maurice Brown are facing federal charges connected to Mo3’s death as the investigation continues to unfold through the courts.
Outside of the legal proceedings, Beezy shared an emotional tribute to his mother on Instagram over the weekend. He posted photos and videos from throughout their lives together and opened up about the pain of the loss.
Several artists and supporters, including Ty Dolla Sign, Meek Mill, Zaytoven, and Bun B, shared messages of support as Beezy prepares for the next phase of a case that remains closely watched.
