YG opened up about his record deal, saying “white people in them offices” were stealing from him.
YG, 31, sat down for an interview with No Jumper’s Adam 22, and he opened up about his past experiences with record labels. The rapper said that white people stole from him, but that was merely karma from his history of robbing.
“When my shit started moving, like, my record deal was fucked up for 10 years straight,” YG said.”I just got out of that shit some months ago. My shit was all bad. I never owned none of my music I put out from, fuckin’, my last album back. I ain’t own nothing, so I just got out of that. But like, the fact that I was in some fucked up deal, you know what I’m saying, that made me start thinking about other shit.” The rapper was accompanied by his 4Hunnid artists Day Sulan, Mitch, and D3.
This isn’t the first time YG has been vocal about being mistreated by record label associates and exes. Back in. February 2020, the Compton native tweeted, “Dear young artist, make sure not to sign to a wack ass record label.” Just a year earlier, he indicated his sixth album would be his last with Def Jam. “After this album drop…I got 1 more album left,” he wrote.
He didn’t detail what specific problems he dealt with while being signed to the label. According to Complex, YG has released his music through his imprint 4Hunnid and Def Jam since Stay Dangerous. He was previously signed to CTE World, and he has a distribution deal with Epic Records for 4Hunnid.
