Von Scales, the husband of singer and reality star Trina Braxton, has died at 58.
A representative for the Braxton family confirmed his death Thursday in a statement. “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Von Scales, beloved husband of Trina Braxton,” the statement said. The family thanked supporters for their thoughts and prayers and asked for privacy as they navigate the loss.
Sources close to the family told TMZ that Scales died around 2 a.m. Thursday in Atlanta. Those sources said he had been dealing with heart problems. An official cause of death has not been released.
Von Scales was an entrepreneur, and fans came to know him through Braxton Family Values and later The Braxtons, where his relationship with Trina played out on screen. The two married on December 15, 2019, in St. Louis, and their wedding was featured on the show.
Their love story started during one of the hardest stretches of Trina’s life. Her former husband, Gabe Solis, died in 2018, and Scales was by her side as she grieved. “He really helped me through it; he stood right by me,” she told Entertainment Tonight in 2019. In interviews around their wedding, she described falling for him during a long distance courtship. She said he was such a great conversationalist that she missed him whenever they were not talking.
The couple were open about blending their families and leaning on each other through difficult times, including the family’s loss of Traci Braxton, Trina’s older sister, who died of esophageal cancer in 2022.
Scales is survived by his wife, Trina.
