Judge Urges YNW Melly to Decide on Legal Defense as Attorney Faces Tampering Allegations Ahead of Retrial [Video]

YNW Melly may have scored a major win in court with a recent mistrial, but his legal battle is far from over.

The “Murder On My Mind” star will be retried in the upcoming months, but the trial has already been pushed back. On Friday, the 24-year-old appeared in court, where he learned that jury selection for the new trial had been moved from October 2nd to October 9th. This latest setback could signify a fresh series of obstacles, similar to that of the original trial, which took about four years to actually go before a jury.

Nevertheless, the Florida musician is confident that he will be coming home soon. During Friday’s hearing, he flashed a big smile at his family before mouthing, “I’m coming home.” Even before the mistrial was declared, Melly’s legal team argued for his release. However, the request was denied several times.

Melly may feel that his chances for freedom are high following the mistrial, but one juror says he only got lucky the first time around. According to the anonymous juror who spoke with South Florida’s Local 10 News, most of the panel wanted to convict the alleged killer, but one woman held up the process by becoming combative during their deliberations. Fans have also remained torn on whether or not Melly murdered his friends, Anthony Williams and Christopher Thomas Jr., before staging the crime scene to look like a drive-by. Evidence suggests he was the shooter, though the prosecution still faced hurdles. Nevertheless, the case will get another look in upcoming months.

Currently, no plans have been announced to release Melly from custody.
