Young Thug Goes Back To Court For Criminal Drug Case

Prosecutors in Young Thug’s criminal drug case have filed an appeal against the recent decision to throw out all evidence, which means the Atlanta rapper is headed back to court. Thug called the legality of the traffic stop into question in court and the judge agreed that the traffic stop was not legal, which basically got all evidence against Thug thrown out of the case.

However, prosecutors are not trying to let the rapper off the hook that easily, and are asking for an appellate court to overturn the decision. Now, the criminal case cannot be closed or move forward until the appeal is decided upon. The judge granted Thug’s motion “as the stop of the vehicle was illegal in violation of the Fourth and Fourteenth Amendments of the United States Constitution.”

The order stated, “Officer Fikes testified, unequivocally, that the sole season for stopping the vehicle was based upon a supposed window tint violation … However, there was no credible evidence present, whatsoever, how this vehicle’s window tint violated.”

The September 2017 incident was over a window tint violation but when Young Thug was pulled over, cops supposedly smelled marijuana and searched the car, finding other drugs and arresting him. Thug said in addition to the wrongful stop, while in custody and being interrogated by police, he was never read his Miranda Rights, therefore all of his statements should be suppressed.

He also says he is innocent of all drug charges, claiming they accused him of possession of multiple drugs with the intent to distribute, but have no evidence to back up the distribution charge in the indictment. If the case goes to trial, Thug could face years behind bars if convicted.
