With Young Thug’s trial resuming, his attorney Brian Steel is seeking to have the lead prosecutors removed from the case. On Thursday, Steel filed a motion to disqualify prosecutors Adriane Love and Simone Hylton from the high-profile proceedings. According to Steel, both women became “critical witnesses” after participating in a secret meeting with Judge Ural Glanville and the trial’s star witness, Kenneth “Lil Woody” Copeland.
Judge Glanville was recused from the case following the meeting, which allegedly discussed the murder of Donovan “Nut” Thomas Jr. Fox 5 Atlanta reported that Woody confessed to the murder during the conversation in the judge’s chambers. However, the exact details of the discussion remain unknown. Judge Glanville held attorney Steel in contempt of court for refusing to disclose who informed him about the meeting, although Steel’s ten-day jail sentence was put on hold.
In his motion, Steel aims to call both Love and Hylton to the stand. With Judge Paige Whitaker now presiding over the case, Steel’s motion will likely be reviewed along with several others. On Friday, Judge Whitaker addressed both sides for the first time, emphasizing the need for respect in the courtroom despite the high emotions and numerous motions.
“The little bit I’ve seen about this case, it definitely has appeared that there have been times that tempers have flared a whole lot, and people have been less than professional. I would like for us to maintain a degree of decorum, dignity, and professionalism,” Whitaker said in court.
