A viral video from a San Francisco apartment building is getting a lot of attention for the way a simple wait for a friend turned into a 911 call. According to a video shared on Twitter by a user named Simar, a man named Christopher called police on Wesley, a software engineer, for allegedly trespassing outside the building on July 4.
Wesley was reportedly waiting for a friend who lives in the building. In the video, Christopher is heard telling him to call his friend on the call box. Wesley declines, and Christopher says he will call the police. His young son can be heard asking him to stop, saying, “Daddy, don’t, don’t.”
A second part of the video shows the back and forth continuing while the child again asks his father to leave it alone, saying, “Daddy, let’s go. I don’t like this. Please daddy, let’s go.” Moments later, Wesley’s friend arrives while Christopher is still on the phone with the 911 dispatcher.
After the video spread online, Christopher was reportedly identified as a YouTube employee, according to his LinkedIn profile as cited by social media users. The San Francisco Chronicle also reported that his father was killed by an intruder outside of his home in 2012. Baller Alert has not seen a public statement from Christopher about the video at the time of this post.
The clip has fueled another round of conversation around the #LivingWhileBlack hashtag, which people use to share stories of Black people being questioned or reported while doing everyday things. We will keep you posted as more details come out.
