Rapper YNW Melly is being accused of plotting to break out of jail with the help of his lawyers.

On Tuesday, a Florida Sheriff’s Office claimed Melly teamed up with his lawyers to plan a prison break. Melly, real name Jamell Demons, is currently behind bars for allegedly murdering his two friends, “YNW Juvy” and “YNW Sakchaser.”

The sheriff’s office shared a statement with Complex that explained the reasonings that supported their claims.

“On April 11, 2022, Broward Sheriff’s Office received a confidential tip regarding inmates Nicholas Lewis and Jamell Demons. Both housed in the same unit at the Main Jail, planning an escape from jail by having Demons’ attorney bring in two handcuff keys to aid in the escape. Additional information provided by the source was that Lewis had a shank and drugs,” the statement reads.

Prison authorities received a tip from another inmate that led to a search of Lewis’s cell. The officers found a six-inch shank, two razor blades, two lighters, rolling papers and Seroquel and Klonopin pills. However, they didn’t find anything but commissary food and “excessive jail-issued clothing” in Melly’s cell.

The latest accusations come just days after Melly was accused of having “shanks” and “ a pipe bomb” in his cell.

Christian Tsoubanos, Assistant General Counsel for the Broward Sherriff’s Office, says, “The confidential source gave us two pieces of information. One of them turned out to be a hundred percent true. And when they did the search of Demons’ cell, they did not find the handcuff key, but it could have been that there was not an opportunity to bring it into the facility yet.”

Melly’s trial has unfortunately been delayed several times. The jury selection was supposed to happen on April 4th but was delayed again with no official date.
