Zoe Saldana’s Husband Takes Her Last Name

When women get married we always wonder about how we should be addressed. Will we take our husband’s last name? Will we hyphenate? We go through every possible scenario but not often do we consider our husband’s taking our name. Well, maybe Zoe Saldana and her husband Italian artist, Marco Perego, will start a trend.

Zoe Saldana and Marco Perego wed in 2013 and Marco insisted he take Zoe’s name. In the July 2015 issue of InStyle, Zoe says she tried to convince him to keep his name,  “I told him, ‘If you use my name, you’re going to be emasculated by your community of artists, by your Latin community of men, by the world.’ But Marco looks up at me and says, ‘Ah, Zoe, I don’t give a s–t.'”

Zoe says Marco is unlike anyone she’s ever been with. “It’s not like I’ve had issues with men; I’ve always just been independent to a fault. I’ve always believed it’s my birthright to behave as an equal on this earth and to be entitled to everything and anything,” she says of past relationships. “That said, I’ve had my experiences of heartbreak when it comes to choosing partners who wanted to be equals but didn’t have the ability to actually reciprocate the respect.”

So ladies, what are your thoughts on men taking your surname? Fellas, would you do it?
