The Tyga AI album now has Doja Cat clocking in to the conversation, and she did not need a long speech to make her position clear. During a livestream , Doja offered an unsolicited reaction to Tyga’s new project, “$TARFACE,” saying, “Tyga is a penis for making an AI album.”

Her comment arrives after Tyga publicly confirmed that artificial intelligence played a role in making the project. In an interview with VIBE, Tyga acknowledged using AI as a creative tool while discussing the technology behind the album. Tyga answered “For sure” when asked whether AI had been used, while maintaining that “the writing, all the vocals are all me.”The album was already designed to be a major departure from the sound fans usually associate with him. $TARFACE” is also the name of Tyga’s 1980s inspired alter ego, a character built around synth pop, cinematic storytelling, vintage production techniques and imagery inspired by the film “Scarface.” Tyga told the outlet that he wanted the character to exist separately from his established rap identity.
Tyga also drew inspiration from albums including Prince’s “Purple Rain”and Michael Jackson’s “Off the Wall.” He said the creative direction was also influenced by his late mother, Pasionaye Nicole Nguyen, who died in 2025. Tyga explained that the project grew out of another creative effort involving an 1980s style film he had written and filmed before developing the “$TARFACE” character.
“$TARFACE” was released July 31, 2026, with 10 tracks. The project includes songs such as “SPINNIN IN CIRCLES,” “WHITE GRAINS,” “POWDERED DREAMS,” “JUST US TONIGHT,” “FREEZING” and “AFFECTION.”
But discussion surrounding the Tyga AI album became even louder after Pitchfork published its review on August 12 and handed “$TARFACE” a 0.0 score. The rating quickly became its own social media talking point as screenshots and reactions circulated online. Pitchfork criticized both the execution of the concept and the album’s relationship with AI, questioning whether technology had replaced too much of the human creative process.
There is also some history behind that brutal number. Pitchfork gave Tyga’s 2018 album “Kyoto” a 0.0 as well. In its original “Kyoto” review, the publication criticized Tyga’s attempt to move toward a more melodic R&B sound. That makes “$TARFACE” his second album to receive a zero from the outlet.
Doja’s criticism is especially interesting because she and Tyga have successfully worked together before. Tyga appeared on Doja Cat’s 2019 remix of “Juicy,” which was released as part of her “Hot Pink” era.
They reunited in 2022 for “Freaky Deaky.” The collaboration arrived on February 25, 2022, and the track debuted at No. 43 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached No. 1 on the Rhythmic Airplay chart.
That shared musical history gives Doja’s comments more weight than a random celebrity reaction. As debate around the Tyga AI album continues, the conversation is becoming bigger than whether listeners enjoy “$TARFACE.” It is also raising a question the music business will probably be wrestling with for years: how much artificial intelligence can enter the creative process before artists and listeners stop viewing it as simply another studio tool?
