Tyler Perry is preparing for a major change outside Hollywood, revealing that he plans to move to Puerto Rico as he begins pulling back from his demanding work schedule. During a Monday interview with NBC’s “TODAY With Jenna & Sheinelle,” Perry surprised interviewer Justin Sylvester by announcing that the relocation is already on his calendar for the beginning of 2027.

“Yes, I am officially. You’re the first to hear this. I’m officially moving to Puerto Rico. No, this is real,” Perry said when the conversation turned to what comes next for him.When Sylvester asked whether he was getting an exclusive, Perry made it clear that the Tyler Perry moving announcement was more than a passing thought. “Yep, moving to Puerto Rico at the top of the year and I’m pulling back a whole lot.”
According to People, Perry is 57 and plans to relocate in early 2027 while making more room in his life for his son, Aman. The outlet reports that Perry shares his 11-year-old son with his former longtime partner, Gelila Bekele.
Perry explained during the NBC interview that fatherhood is a major part of why his priorities are shifting. Asked what inspired the decision, he replied, “Oh, getting older, so it’s like it’s time to slow down a little bit, enjoy more time with my son, and just take it all, take it all in.”
The emphasis on Aman fits with what Perry has said publicly about parenting for years. According to ABC News, Perry has intentionally kept Aman away from the celebrity spotlight, explaining in a 2022 interview that he wanted his son to experience as normal a childhood as possible and develop an identity separate from his famous father.
Aman was born in 2014, according to ESSENCE, and Perry has consistently spoken about wanting him to understand hard work despite growing up with significant financial privilege. More recently, People reported that Perry and Bekele had Aman fly commercial coach for several years as part of their effort to keep him grounded.
The Tyler Perry moving news arrives while the filmmaker remains active professionally. According to Netflix Tudum, his latest film, “Why Did I Get Married Again?,” premiered September 9. Perry wrote and directed the third installment of the franchise and returned alongside cast members including Jill Scott, Tasha Smith, Michael Jai White, Richard T. Perry has built much of his entertainment operation in Atlanta, where AARP reported that his Tyler Perry Studios complex spans roughly 330 acres.
